The placement or storage of landscaping material, trash carts, appliances or furniture, portable basketball hoops, or similar items upon a public street or sidewalk is considered an encroachment.

Vehicles parked on private property which partially overhang or block the sidewalk are also considered encroachments.

These encroachments are a public safety hazard and can impact the flow of traffic, causing significant risks to pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles.

An Encroachment Permit is required for any work or short-term storage in the public right-of-way.

For more information on encroachments, please refer to LMC 12.08

Vegetation

All shrubs and trees in, on, or over the public right-of-way (i.e.: sidewalk, gutter, street, etc.) must be kept trimmed back and maintained so as to not obstruct the vision or safe travel of motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians.
