Livermore’s climate, soils, terrain, and geography contribute to a rich biological diversity, ranching, and winemaking heritage. Livermore provides natural habitat for a variety of plants and wildlife species, many of which are rare and unique to this region, as well as working lands suited to cattle grazing and winemaking. 

Program Overview

The City’s Open Space and Conservation Program implements long-standing policies that call for the protection of the open space and habitat areas in and around Livermore. The City protects land to achieve policy goals in a variety of ways: 

  1. The first step in land protection is planning and policy development.  
  2. The second step is acquiring land.  
  3. The third step includes stewarding the land and ensuring it is properly managed for its conservation values.
