A building permit is required for any accessory structure, including storage sheds, patio covers and arbors exceeding 120 square feet or attached to the house or garage.

Accessory structures, including temporary or "pop up" canopies, shall not be located in a primary dwelling frontage.

Temporary canopies (pop ups) and most fabric structures do not meet the Building Code and therefore cannot be used as a permanent structure.

Shipping containers are not allowed in residential zoning districts. For shipping containers in a commercial or industrial zoning district, please contact the Permit Center at 925-960-4440.

Regardless of permit requirements, all accessory structures must meet set backs and lot coverage. For information on accessory structures, please refer to LDC 4.02.030.

Temporary storage structures, such as rented storage pods, etc., within a residential area require a Temporary Use Permit which shall not exceed 30 days on private property.

The placement of a rented storage pod upon a public street is prohibited
