Short-Term Rental

In 2023, the City implemented the Short-Term Rental (STR) permit program. A STR is the rental of a residence, or a portion thereof, for 30 days or less. The permit program ensures compatibility with the surrounding neighborhoods regarding issues such as noise, parking and public safety. The permit requires contact information for the STR host, and a complaint hotline is available to address complaints quickly.

Recent amendments to the Municipal Code approved by the City Council now allow accessory dwelling units (sometimes called “granny flats” or “in-law” units), which were permitted prior to January 1, 2020, to be used as STRs consistent with state law and subject to the City’s STR permit requirements.

STR permits must be renewed annually, no later than December 31 each year, and are subject to the City’s transient occupancy tax (TOT). For additional information or to apply for a STR permit, please visit Short-Term Rental.

Long-Term Rental

For long-term residential rental (more than 30 consecutive days), no permit or business license is required for one rental unit.  For two or more residential long-term rentals by the same owner, a business license is required.  For more information, please visit Business License.
