Photographer Bill Owens: Suburbia & Beyond

Photographer Bill Owens will present “Bill Owens: Suburbia & Beyond” on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at 2 p.m. in the Storytime Room of the Civic Center Library, 1188 S. Livermore Ave. Registration is not required for this free event.

Mr. Owens will share photos and discuss Suburbia, which just celebrated its 50th anniversary and is considered a seminal photography book of the 20th century. Bill will also talk about his photojournalism and the chronicling of Altamont and the Bay Area activist movement, as well as his recent projects, including the dystopian comedy The Delco Years, and a limited-edition poetry book.

Bill Owens was born in 1938 and grew up on a small farm outside Roseville, Calif. Owens established Buffalo Bill’s, one of the nation’s first brew pubs, and was the publisher of BEER the Magazine. Bill went on to establish The American Distilling Institute (ADI), the oldest and largest organization of small-batch, independently owned distillers. Astonishingly, all the while Bill has continued to make, exhibit, and sell his photographs. Owens is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and two National Endowment for the Arts Grants.
