Stormwater Pollution Prevention

Freisman Park BasinStorm drains carry water from streets and yards to local creeks then on to the Bay without wastewater treatment. Stormwater pollution occurs when various pollutants accumulate on surfaces and are washed off by rainfall or water. The pollutants flow into stormdrains then into the creeks and on to the Bay. Everyday activities such as gardening, and driving also contribute to stormwater pollution. Commercial and industrial activities are another source of pollution. Because it affects the health of our creeks and the Bay stormwater pollution is an important issue.

Green Infrastructure Plan

Green infrastructure are sustainable systems that slow and clean stormwater runoff, dispersing it into vegetated areas. Green Infrastructure removes pollutants from stormwater runoff before it reaches the creeks. The Green Infrastructure Plan guides the development and tracking of green infrastructure projects within Livermore. The Plan maps out and prioritizes both planned and potential green infrastructure projects in Livermore, ways to integrate green infrastructure elements into capital projects, and sets general design and functionality guidelines.

Requirements for Development

Conditions of approval for development projects include the installation and maintenance of Best Management Practices for site design and stormwater treatment, which must be designed per approved numeric sizing criteria. General guidance on the selection and implementation of BMP's and Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans can be found on the California Stormwater Quality Association website
