We rely on skilled, experienced professionals to manage our drinking water and wastewater systems safely and efficiently. Without their expertise, many aspects of daily life — from agriculture to industry to public health and the environment — would falter.

Current projections anticipate a wave of retirements among those currently working in water and wastewater treatment plants. Over the next ten years, up to half of these experienced personnel in the United States are expected to retire, leaving existing plants with significant gaps among their operators, technicians, managers, and others.
