Someone Could Eat That: A Surplus Edible-Food Compliance Webinar

Under California State law SB 1383, commercial edible food generators must begin recovering surplus edible food that would otherwise be disposed of and donate it to nourish people. Careit is a free food donation and rescue app that matches surplus edible food with non-profits that redistribute to the community. Careit is hosting two webinars for Livermore businesses interested in learning how to use the Careit app as a tool for facilitating edible food recovery in compliance with SB 1383.

The City of Livermore seeks to support and collaborate with local businesses to implement more sustainable and resilient practices, consistent with the City's Climate Action Plan (CAP) goals. The Livermore Climate Action Team (LCAT) is comprised of City Staff, local non-profits, national laboratories, students, school board members, and business owners united in the mission to foster community involvement in the City’s climate action initiatives.

The disposal of organic waste in landfills contributes significantly to greenhouse gas emissions. A key goal of the CAP is to reduce waste, particularly by preventing organic waste from being sent to the landfill.

LCAT is conducting this survey among downtown restaurants to gain insights into their waste management practices, the challenges they encounter, and to help identify resources needed for a collaborative solution that will facilitate waste reduction and cost savings. It will take less than 3 minutes to complete the survey.

The aim of this survey is to understand the resources that restaurants need and identify opportunities to collaborate.
