Shopping carts left on parkways, sidewalks, or streets can pose hazards for pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers in addition to creating blight on the community.

The removal and/or unauthorized possession of a shopping cart from a store or owner’s property is a violation of state and local laws and may result in the issuance of citation.

Shopping carts which are stored or abandoned on private property may result in a warning or issuance of citation to the property owner.

Shopping carts must be clearly marked with the store or owner’s contact information for the return of the cart, as well as the notification that removal and unauthorized possession is a violation of state and local laws.

For more information on shopping carts, please refer to LMC 8.18.
